  ‘Nadeshiko Shirakawa’ machiya house: a traditional holiday house (vacation rental) located near Gion, the famous teahouse district of Kyoto. From Gion, follow the quaint Shirakawa River and enter a hidden entrance known only to locals. You'll be led down an atmospheric lane lined with traditional wooden facades to your machiya house. Slide open the lattice door to reveal an interior designed with earthen walls, intricate woodwork, and ‘shoji’ paper doors. The 1F Japanese room is lined with ‘tatami’ flooring, as is the perfect place to admire the inner garden.The bathroom is enveloped in hinoki wood and also features a stone tiled bathtub. (The Japanese room can be converted into a sleeping area when more than 2 guests stay here) Head upstairs where you will find 2 rooms. The Western-style bedroom showcases wooden beam stretching across the ceiling, while the cozy Japanese room includes a small veranda. This renovated Kyoto machiya house also includes modern facilities such as floor heating, WiFi, IH stovetop, washing machine, and more.
