  ‘Shikoku-an’ machiya house, located in the heart of central Kyoto, near the tranquil Takasegawa River. An elegant machiya designed with a dark ‘shikkui’ earthen exterior, a unique feature that is rare even amongst traditional machiya houses. With a name inspired by the traditional ‘’shikoku’ color (black with subtle purple hue), ”Shikoku-an” machiya house features the skills of Kyoto’s many craftsmen. In addition to its striking exterior, the interior is designed with ‘juraku-nuri’ earthen clay walls (specially covered in rare ‘juraku’ clay found in only specific areas of Kyoto). Slide open the shoji-paper doors of the 1F living room to reveal a modern kitchenette, perfect for making light meals. Enjoy the tatami-lined Japanese rooms as you look out into the garden, or relax in the 2F bedroom that showcases exposed wooden beams for a luxurious stay. Discover the history that lies behind the walls of this centuries-old machiya.
